She sees that the man she loves does not love her. Wordlessly - in close-up & seemingly in a single take - Peters looks into the eyes of her beloved but troubled fiancé. The scene that follows probably's what snagged Susan Peters her only nomination: And while selecting hymns for the service, Colman has - ohno! - a flashback to his marriage to Greer. They prepare for the enormously British wedding. You've spoiled me for other men, you know.") and - whaddayaknow - Colman asks Kitty to marry him. She reminds him of her unrelenting love for him in creepy molestuous tones ("It's not fair. Not that I tweet a lot, I'm more active here on my blog. Finally, when 12 years have passed - Kitty's all grown up and sophisticated Colman's a workaholic with no interest in romance. I still have lots more to discover about this actor and I am loving it. He died too young at age 67 in 1958 from lung problems but I love that his work has been preserved for younger generations to still discover him again and that his pull, even after all these years, is still so strong, it can drag me down this Ronald-Colman-rabbithole. ![]() All his movies were black and white and all pictures I find of him are in black and white (except for some pictures that have been colourized). Ronald Colman is from a different era and in my mind he only exists in black and white. I have even found two silent movies of his that I want to watch as well. Next on my viewing list is A Tale of Two Cities from 1935 which seems to be one of the best things Colman has done, followed by The Talk of the Town from 1942 with Cary Grant and I also want to see his 1947 Oscar winning performance in A Double Life about an actor who is finding it hard to distinguish his real self from the character he plays. Yes, this is melodrama and maybe a little Hollywood-convoluted, but it is acted so beautifully by Ronald Colman and Greer Garson, it can’t help but draw you in! I have seen the movie twice in as many weeks and will definitely watch it again. ![]()
